I use an X32 with a Sonar Artist DAW On the X32, I use 8 mixbus channels for my FOH 1,2 QSC K12 pair 3,4 JBL 615 pair 5,6 Bose L2 pair (columns only, no base modules) 7,8 QSC KSUB pair There are 2 Bose S1 Pro on the monitors bus, used as monitors. For me, the best features of the X32/M32 for a recording studio is the fact that you can control multiple headphone mixes, apply comfort reverb as needed, EQ and compress for the artists' tracking preferences while capturing 'vanilla' sound, control over multiple stereo pairs of speakers, quickly balancing tracks via the Mackie Control when doing post-production on live recordings, and proper talkback to the artists. Having done the OTB thing, it reaffirmed my commitment to ITB workflow.

I also have experimented with an OTB (out of the box) scene in which I mapped 12 stereo busses to the X32/M32 inputs, and then some fancy P16 to Card-out-to-computer routing to provide the summed result.

That's my ITB (in the box) scene in a nutshell. The other 32 inputs remain on the upper two layers and work as expected. That layer also has the USB port hard-wired to the fourth stereo pair, and I never use it. Soft-synth output being managed independently of the main mix playback during overdubbing is vital to keeping the audio focus where it needs to be for the best headphone mix. It's like dimming the lights in an auditorium but in this case it ensures that they all wait for the sustain tails and cymbals to decay at the end of a take. During tracking, it's very nice to fade out the metronome in the ears of the musicians. The next stereo is mapped for the metronome, and the third stereo pair is for soft-synth outputs. I've found it most convenient to map the Card-in from the computer to the Aux-in's in the following way: The first stereo pair is the master out from Sonar. I now use an M32, but the exact same logical setup of signal routing topology. I used an X32 as my main recording interface starting in the spring of 2013.

It seems like for my recording setup I would have to route my main bus out of Sonar to an auxiliary track rather then regular track so as not to have to use up a whole block of 8 card inputs just to have a two track output from the computer. It certainly has all the bells and whistles and gets some good reviews but I don't like the groups of 8 assignments you have to make for the inputs and outputs. I have been eyeing one to replace my StudioLive 16.0.2 but I have not been convinced that this will adequately replace it. ReginaldStjohn BMOG Are you using the X32 as your main recording interface? If so are you pleased with the results? I have been speaking with some sound engineers and they state the X32 is good for live production but not so much for being your main recording device? I just bought one and wanted to know thanks in advance
